20 years nurturing our love for plants

Garden Prep Before a Move

Clearing a garden before a move protects both plants and the people carrying them. These steps mirror what we did when Test Valley Nursery relocated its own stock beds.

Start by sorting keepers from compost. Bag diseased material separately and follow local garden waste disposal rules for the rest. Photograph bed layouts and label pots you plan to move — memory fades once everything is on the driveway.

Trim back floppy growth, water deeply the day before lifting, and dig wide so roots stay intact. Stack tools, canes, and empty pots away from paths the removal crew will use. A tidy plot reduces trip hazards and gives you space to stage trays while vans load household goods first and plants last.

Need a checklist for timing lifts with your moving date? Our team can suggest a two-week plan when you contact us — no van booking required, just practical nursery advice from people who have moved thousands of pots themselves.
